Economic Overview

What we brief clients on

Industrial output fell approximately 20% following the West Bank occupation but has recovered, achieving 1.8% growth in 2016 and expanding substantially since the 1960s.

Key sectors include tourism, information technology, textiles, pharmaceuticals, potash and phosphate mining, petroleum refining, cement and fertilizers.

Agriculture contracted sharply after 1967 — before the war the West Bank produced 25% of Jordan's grain, 40% of vegetables and 70% of fruit. Employment in the sector fell from 37% of the workforce in 1965 to 4% by 2004.
