Economic Overview

What we brief clients on

Saudi Arabia has transformed from an agricultural society into a regional and global economic power with modern infrastructure. The private sector now accounts for 48% of GDP, and the Kingdom ranks as the 19th largest exporter and 20th largest import market worldwide.

Industrial cities at Jubail on the Arabian Gulf and Yanbu on the Red Sea anchor manufacturing, while SABIC — created in 1976 — produced 72.7 million metric tons of chemicals, polymers, fertilizers and metals in 2016.

Since the April 2000 foreign investment law, overseas investors receive the same benefits, incentives and guarantees as Saudi entities, including property and real-estate ownership. WTO membership followed in December 2005.
